What should ‘good’ HR look like? +
HR shouldn’t be about putting roadblocks in the way or policies that boil down to ‘computer says no’. Good HR should be used as a toolbox – making life easy and straightforward for all team members – enabling them to get the job done.
Can’t I just google it? Do I really need HR support? +
You can probably find a step-by-step guide to removing an appendix online, that doesn’t mean you should try it. Google searches (and AI searches for that matter) will find specific examples of UK employment law, but only in relation to examples and case studies already available. Is that situation 100% exactly like your situation? Is the company in the same sector and with the same employment contracts? Realistically, the answer to all of those questions is 'no' and the second that something doesn’t quite fit your situation precisely, the information might not be correct for what you’re experiencing. And the cost of getting it wrong will likely far outweigh the cost of working with us in the first place.
Why are you rebels? Shouldn’t HR follow the rules? +
We are rebels, but we still follow the rules. We just don’t make them stifling and over-bearing. All our policies will follow UK employment law – that’s not optional – our rebellious nature shines through by kicking out tick-box exercises, ripping up jargon-heavy policies and refusing to treat people like a resource, rather than as people. With epocHRebel, we ask if something actually works for our clients, rather than doing something because ‘everyone else does it’. That’s where we rebel; that’s where we stand out.
What if I need help quickly? +
We’ve dealt with pretty much any type of crisis you can imagine. We can be on-hand fast, and will always try to prioritise urgent situations with practical, no-nonsense advice and guidance. If you are in an urgent HR crisis, we can give you a clear plan of action, prioritised with which order to take the actions and won’t make you wade through a 50-page report to try and find out what you need to do. In these situations, think of epocHRebel like HR A&E – we’ll stabilise the immediate situation and then prioritise longer-term care and provide advice on not making the same mistake again.
HR is just about stopping us from doing what we want. You’re basically the fun police, right? +
Wrong. HR shouldn’t crush morale and build blocks to creativity and thinking outside the box. Why should there even be a box? Every company is different, and boxes stifle that. We protect every team member and create an environment where people want to work and are able to achieve more. Difficult conversations will always arise, but by calling out policies that are needlessly restrictive, they should be easier to navigate. HR should be about common sense, not the fun police. To reiterate, do not put your team members in boxes. That’s just not right.
